D.E. was born in Newport, Rhode Island in 1962, but his family moved when he was an infant at 2 years old and he spent his childhood years (2-9) being raised on the Southside of inner city Chicago. After climbing out of poverty by hard work and dedication, his dad moved the family to the woods and wilds of Crown Point, Indiana where he spent his boyhood years (10-15) exploring woods, ponds, swamps, and knolls, and falling in love with nature. He spent his coming of age teen years (16-19) in the suburbs before he went off to college at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana to study English and the writing arts.
He left college to enlist in the United States Air Force where he served 10 years and in 3 conflicts. His first tour of duty was McChord AFB in Tacoma, Washington where he married, then with his wife moved to RAF Alconbury in the United Kingdom for a second tour where he was part of the Air Raid on Tripoli. He completed a degree in Communications and Leadership, then moved to Patrick AFB in Satellite Beach, Florida where he was part of the Invasion of Panama and the First Gulf War. He separated with an honorable discharge and entered a biblical studies program where he completed a degree in Theology with focus on biblical languages, texts, and translations.
He's served 38 years in the ministry as a biblical research teacher and minister, and continues to translate biblical texts and write research articles. He returned to school with Purdue University Global and completed a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies graduating summa cum laude. He's working on a Master's in arts and humanities in preparation for his doctorate studies. He separated with an honorable discharge to go into a biblical research program where he graduated with a Theology degree focusing on biblical texts, languages, and translation.
In addition to being an author and poet, he spent 14 years in the banking industry, 4 years in account services, 4 years in executive management of a global bank, and 6 years as the CEO of a credit union. He has dozens of years of experience as a technical writer and editor, and most recently is a professional Medical Editor with a clinical research company. He has a strong background in linguistic analysis and has written poems in several languages, also helping foreign language poets translate their work into English.
He was first published in 1980 in the Purdue Exponent Literary Edition and many of his poems, essays, and articles have been published in various magazines, venues, anthologies, and journals ever since. List of publications.
